Increased Risk Of CVD, Ischemic Heart Disease And Death Link With Ultra-processed Food

Recent study adds reasons why shouldn’t we consume Junk food. Studies conducted in southern Italy links risk of cardiovascular diseases and ischemic heart disease with ultra processed junk food.




A study conducted in southern Italy shows that among 22’000 men and women, those people who consumed more of junk food were at higher risk or developing CVD or ischemic heart disease because of high sugar in their diet.

Marialaura Bonaccio, PHD, Department of Epidemiology and prevention at IRCCS NEUROMED, Pozzilli, Italy said that these findings should serve as an incentive for limiting consumption of ultra-processed food and encourage natural or minimally processed food as recommended by national nutritional policy.

In this cohort study it shows that high consumption of Junk or ultra-processed food was linked to increase in risk of CVD mortality at 58% and ischemic heart disease mortality at 52% independently of other known risk factors.

As reported by Medscape medical news, obesity and incidence of chronic conditions is associated with the increase in consumption of Junk food. As concluded by a study which was conducted in European cohort found that People who consumed diet having more of UPF like soda, beverage and other were more likely to suffer with Cardiovascular diseases and die sooner that someone who consumed natural diet or diet with less amount of ultra-processed food. In an article by theheart.org, the adults who consumed 10% more of UPF were at 11-13% increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease, coronary artery disease, cerebrovascular disease and ischemic heart disease.

Among the four main class of food and beverages which is provided by NOVA classification, ultra-processed food is the last category which contains very little content of natural or real food. These foods are very convincing, tasty and inexpensive which is a huge competition to the natural fresh foods.

FMGE Exam Pattern

FMGE/MCI Screening test is of total 300 marks (Multiple choice questions) Exam conducted in a single day divided into two parts each containing 150 questions. Timing for both parts will be 2:30 hours and you'll get approximately 1 hour break in between . There is no negative marking. Mode of exam is computer based. One must obtain 150 marks to pass the exam.
